About
Gregory Eckenrode, MD, MS, FACS, is a General Surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As a fellowship-trained surgical critical care intensivist, Dr. Eckenrode focuses on the medical and surgical care of acutely and critically ill patients. He provides minimally invasive and robotic interventions for most common surgical diseases, including abdominal wall and inguinal hernias, gallbladder disease, and diseases of the small bowel and colon.
Prior to his medical career, Dr. Eckenrode completed his Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering at The Ohio State University in 2004 and worked in industry for several years. In 2008, he completed his postbaccalaureate premedical education at Johns Hopkins University and began his medical studies. Dr. Eckenrode earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2014 at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha Research Award and spent a year performing research as a Howard Hughes Medical Institutes Research Fellow. He then completed his general surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2021, where he also earned his Master’s Degree in clinical epidemiology and health services research from Weill Cornell Medical School. He furthered his postgraduate training with his fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at Rutgers University School of Medicine.
Dr. Eckenrode’s research focuses on issues surrounding surgical training, electronic health record applications and utilization, and quality assurance and outcomes improvement. He has shared his research through peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Eckenrode is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
