Amit Punj, DMD

Amit Punj, DMD, MCR, is Program Director, Prosthodontic Residency Program, Associate Professor, Dentistry and Associate Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus lies in prosthodontic procedures, including implant restorations, crowns, bridges and dentures. As part of his commitment to interprofessional care at Montefiore Einstein, Dr. Punj works with the division of Geriatrics to provide physicians with oral health training and screening patients for dental pathologies.

After earning his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Karnataka, India in 2000, Dr. Punj earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine at Tufts University in 2005. He obtained a prosthodontics certification at Montefiore in 2014, followed by a Master of Clinical Research at Oregon Health and Science University in 2018. Dr. Punj earned his Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 2023, and completed a fellowship in bio-design training at Montefiore Einstein the same year.

Dr. Punj’s research focuses on clinical research, dental materials and technology, and medical and dental education-related research. He has been principal investigator on several research studies, and his work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, books, chapters and review articles. He has also given national and international invited lectures and presentations.

Dr. Punj is board certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (FACP) and the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). He is also a member of many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the National Association of Dental Laboratories, the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Faculty of Dental Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, among others. In 2014, Dr. Punj received the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award for outstanding achievement in the teaching of medical students.
