Jenny J. Choi, MD

Jenny J. Choi, MD, is Director, Bariatric Surgery and Associate Director, Clinical Affairs at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Choi’s clinical focus is in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery, including single-incision laparoscopic surgery.

A graduate of Yale University, Dr. Choi received her Bachelor of Arts in molecular biophysics & biochemistry and music from the institution in 1995. She then attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Choi completed her general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut in 2008, followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and Cornell University in 2009. She also completed a hernia mini-fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland in 2010.

Dr. Choi’s research focuses on the long-term benefits of bariatric surgery. She has contributed to clinical studies of bariatric and minimally invasive surgical techniques and outcomes and has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, posters and presentations at national meetings. Dr. Choi has also authored chapters in surgical textbooks and served as invited faculty at national and international conferences.

Dr. Choi is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and she has served on the SAGES Bariatrics Committee. Dr. Choi received the Surgeon Mentor Award at Montefiore Einstein in 2014.
