Deborah S. Sherman, MD

Deborah Sherman, MD, is Director, Gastroenterology Clinic (CFCC), Co-Director, Gastroenterology/Hepatology Course and Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical interest is in all aspects of gastrointestinal health with a particular focus on colon cancer screening and preventative health through diet and lifestyle. She offers inpatient and outpatient gastrointestinal consultation as well as office and hospital-based endoscopy.

After earning her Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College in 1977, Dr. Sherman completed her internal medicine residency at the Metropolitan Hospital – New York Medical College in 1980. She then completed a clinical fellowship in gastroenterology at St. Luke’s Hospital in 1985.

Dr. Sherman’s research, titled “Postgastrectomy Malnutrition: Mechanism of Weight Loss”, has been published in Digestive Diseases and Sciences and the abstract Gastroenterology 84. She co-authored papers on "Primary Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis" in the Einstein Journal of Biology and Medicine (2013) and "Lupron-Induced Fibroid Erosion into the Rectosigmoid Colon" in the American Journal of Gastroenterology (2004). Dr. Sherman presented “Choledochal Cysts: A Review” at the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and “Postgastrectomy Malnutrition: Mechanism of Weight Loss” at the American Gastroenterology Association Meeting.

Dr. Sherman is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.
