Leandro Slipczuk Bustamante, MD, PhD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist and a recognized leader in clinical cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging. He serves as the Section Head and Director of Clinical Cardiology, Director of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Program, and Director of the Cardiovascular Atherosclerosis and Lipid Disorder Center at Montefiore Cardiology Division. Additionally, Dr. Slipczuk is an Associate Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Program Director for the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship.

Dr. Slipczuk specializes in the comprehensive management of coronary artery disease, familial hypercholesterolemia, lipid disorders, cardiometabolic conditions, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and heart failure. His clinical approach integrates cutting-edge multimodality imaging to optimize prevention and treatment strategies.

Dr. Slipczuk earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 2007, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in 2010 from the same institution. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Einstein Medical Center in 2013 and pursued a fellowship in cardiology and advanced cardiovascular imaging at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, graduating in 2016.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Slipczuk focuses on identifying high-risk patients, characterizing plaque features, lipid disorders, cardiovascular imaging, and valvular heart disease. His work has been extensively published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, JAMA Cardiology, Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of the American Heart Association, American Journal of Preventive Cardiology, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, European Heart Journal: Cardiovascular Imaging, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, European Heart Journal, and others.

Dr. Slipczuk has been recognized for his leadership in the field, earning prestigious honors such as the National Hispanic Medical Association Leadership Fellowship and selection to the ACC Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Preventive Cardiology and assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases in 2025, a journal ranked in the top 14% of cardiovascular disease publications, with a 5-year impact factor of 6.9.He holds board certifications from the American Board of Clinical Lipidology and the American Board of Internal Medicine, alongside specialized certifications in cardiovascular CT, comprehensive adult echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Slipczuk is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
