About

Mohamed I. Sakr, MBBCh, FAAP, is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Sakr’s clinical focus centers on bedside point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), neonatal mechanical ventilation and hemodynamics in the neonatal intensive care unit. After earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the Alexandria University School of Medicine in Alexandra, Egypt, in 2006, Dr. Sakr completed an internship at Alexandria Main University Hospital in 2008. He then completed his pediatrics residency at Abu Kir Hospital in Alexandra in 2011 and was a Neonatology Senior Registrar at this institution until 2013. Dr. Sakr moved to the United States to continue his medical training, completing his pediatrics residency and chief residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in 2021, as well as a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Montefiore Einstein the same year. Dr. Sakr’s research focuses on bedside POCUS and neonatal mechanical ventilation, particularly the Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA). His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications and he has given many invited presentations and intramural presentations. Dr. Sakr is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Egyptian Neonatal Network. Dr. Sakr has received many awards for his work, including the Above and Beyond Gold Star multiple times from the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein, the Best Quality Improvement Project for the Pediatric Research Day Annual Meeting at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein in 2024 and the Outstanding House Officer Award from Montefiore Einstein in 2024.
