Teddy J. Wohlbold, MD, PhD

Teddy John Wohlbold, MD, PhD, is a neonatologist at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Wohlbold’s clinical focus centers on infection and sepsis in the preterm population as well as antimicrobial stewardship. He is particularly interested in guideline development and implementation for empiric antibiotic therapy in sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis, as well as for antifungal use in extremely preterm infants.

Dr. Wohlbold obtained his Bachelor of Science in cell biology and neuroscience and psychology from Rutgers University in 2011. He continued his medical training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine with a distinction in research and his Doctor of Philosophy in biomedical sciences in 2019. Following this, Dr. Wohlbold completed his pediatric residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2022. He then completed a neonatal-perinatal fellowship at Columbia in 2025.

Dr. Wohlbold’s graduate research focused on influenza virology and vaccine design. He continues to apply his PhD training towards investigating fetal and neonatal immunity. He is particularly interested in studying how infection, inflammation and prematurity alter the development of the immune system. He has shared his work through numerous peer-reviewed publications, as well as national and international invited presentations, seminars and lectures. He has also served as a journal reviewer for Heliyon, PLOS One and Vaccine.

Dr. Wohlbold is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and its section, Trainees and Early Career Neonatologists (TECaN) as well as the American Society for Virology (ASV).
