About

Rachel Berman, MD, MPH, is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Berman’s clinical focus is on providing primary care for children in the Bronx and surrounding communities, including preventive medicine, growth and development assessment, mental health concerns, and acute and chronic illness treatment. Dr. Berman is deeply committed to caring for children and families from diverse backgrounds and addressing the social and structural factors that affect health and well-being.

Dr. Berman earned her Bachelor of Arts in social anthropology from Harvard University in 2004 and her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health from Boston University in 2010. She completed her pediatric residency at Boston Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital in 2013, followed by a residency in preventive medicine at the same institution in 2015.

Dr. Berman’s research focuses on community health, specifically training pediatricians to address social and structural drivers of health and to advocate with their patients and communities. Her research has explored the care of new immigrant and refugee patients as well as the impact of poverty-related social drivers of health on child development. She has presented her work nationally, and it has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, books, chapters, review articles and abstracts.

Dr. Berman is board certified in General Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Academic Pediatric Association. Dr. Berman is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Leo M. Davidoff Society for excellence in medical student teaching.
