About
Anna R. Cooper, MD, MPH, is Orthopedic Oncology Fellowship Director, Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Orthopedic Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Cooper treats both children and adults with bone and soft-tissue tumors. She has a particular interest in the management of pathologic fractures and megaprosthetic reconstruction and is passionate about trainee education.
After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in 2003, Dr. Cooper worked in a translational neuroscience laboratory at Columbia University, where she developed microsurgical skills and developed an interest in bridging the gap between translational science and the lay community. She then attended the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she earned her Master of Public Health with an emphasis on epidemiology methods in 2007, followed by her Doctor of Medicine with a distinction in research and community in 2011. Dr. Cooper remained at this institution to complete her residency in orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation in 2016. She then completed a musculoskeletal oncology fellowship at the University of Florida in 2017.
Dr. Cooper’s research interests include patient-reported outcomes in orthopedic oncology and the impact of frailty on postoperative orthopedic outcomes. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, case reports and book chapters, and she has shared her work through many national and international abstracts, podium presentations and invited presentations.
Dr. Cooper is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of several professional organizations, including the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the Children’s Oncology Group, the American Orthopaedic Association and the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, among others. In 2025, she was voted as a Member of the Nominating and Development Committees of the American Orthopaedic Association.
