About

Sunit P. Jariwala, MD, is Founding Director, Clinical & Research Innovation; Founding Co-Director, Montefiore Einstein Asthma Center; Founding Director, Innovation Biodesign Training Program, and Medical Director, Digital Transformation at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Jariwala is also Professor, Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Jariwala provides allergy and immunology care to patients across all ages, from infants with atopic dermatitis to elderly patients with severe asthma. His clinical approach emphasizes patient education, fostering a partnership between the care team, patients, and their families. As a board-certified clinical informaticist, he is passionate about the intersection of health technology and clinical care delivery, finding great reward in seeing the improvement most patients experience with today’s leading-edge treatment plans. He takes a collaborative, team-based approach to care, working closely with his allergy/immunology colleagues and specialists from other fields.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology and biochemistry at Rutgers University, Dr. Jariwala attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2005. He came to Montefiore Einstein for his postgraduate training, completing his internal medicine residency in 2008, and his allergy/immunology fellowship in 2011. He is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration in Finance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Isenberg School of Management.

Dr. Jariwala’s research interests focus on developing, implementing and evaluating innovative health technologies for asthma and other chronic conditions. Throughout the past decade, his research team has created and launched 15 mobile health applications, such as ASTHMAXcel and DiabetesXcel, for patient-facing education and self-management. He has shared his work through more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters, abstracts, and national and regional presentations. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for several national and international medical journals.

Dr. Jariwala is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Clinical Informatics). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Medical Informatics Association, one of only a few clinicians within the United States to hold both distinctions.
