Rebecca A. Levine, MD

Rebecca A. Levine, MD, is an attending surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Levine specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant colorectal disease, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders and anorectal pathology.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in biology at Harvard University in 1996, Dr. Levine earned her Doctor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2004. She completed her general surgery residency at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in 2009, where she was Chief Resident in her final year. Following this, Dr. Levine completed a Colon & Rectal Surgery Fellow at William Beaumont Hospital in 2010.

Trained in both basic and clinical research, Dr. Levine brings an understanding to how translational research can advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer, the third most common cause of cancer in the United States. She has been site principal investigator and associate investigator on a number of research projects, and her work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and poster and oral presentations.

Dr. Levine is a Diplomate of the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. She is an associate member of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society for Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract. In 2009, Dr. Levine won the Award for Outstanding Oral Presentation at the Michigan Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Annual Meeting. In 2010, she won the First Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the Chicago Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons Research Competition. In 2013, Dr. Levine won the Montefiore Face of Respect Award from Montefiore Einstein.
