Raanan Arens, MD

Raanan Arens, MD, is Chief, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and Program Director, Pediatric Pulmonology at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). He is also Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. He specializes in the care of children with respiratory disorders affecting their breathing and sleep.

In 1981, Dr. Arens earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in Israel. After completing his pediatrics residency at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel in 1990, he pursued a three-year fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, completing it in 1994.

A researcher funded by the NIH for most of his career, Dr. Arens’ work focuses on the pathophysiology and consequences of obstructive sleep apnea in children utilizing novel MRI methodology. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, national and international conferences, symposia and invited lectures. Dr. Arens is also on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Psychology and Sleep, and is a reviewer for many medical journals.

Dr. Arens is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics sections of General Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Pediatric Society and the American Thoracic Society.
