Mandana Behbahani, MD

Mandana Behbahani, MD, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor, Neurological Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Behbahani specializes in pediatric neurological surgery with a focus on pediatric neuro-oncology, skull base, neuro-endoscopy, epilepsy, and vascular pathologies.

Dr. Behbahani received her Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Arizona State University. She later attended University of Arizona College of Medicine, earning her Doctor of Medicine with a Research Distinction. She started her postgraduate neurosurgery residency training at University of Illinois in Chicago. Following the completion of her residency training, she completed a year-long fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Ann & Roberts H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Dr. Behbahani’s research focuses on adult and pediatric brain tumors, ranging from basics of understanding pathophysiology of schwannomas and meningiomas in neurofibromatosis as it relates to therapeutic drug targeting; intraoperative technology targeted towards improved tumor resection by identifying the tumor-brain interface; as well as a liquid biopsy in DIPG and exploration of the epigenetic landscape of DIPG tumors as it relates to therapeutic targets. Her work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, books and abstracts, and has been presented internationally at invited presentations. She has also presented her work at numerous national and international meetings.
