About

Yorg Al Azzi, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a transplant nephrologist at Montefiore Medical Center. He also serves as Medical Director of the Kidney Living Donation Program at Montefiore, where he leads efforts to advance living donor transplantation and expand access to kidney transplantation.

Dr. Al Azzi specializes in transplant nephrology, kidney transplantation, and complex kidney disease, with particular expertise in transplant immunology, infectious complications in transplant recipients, and outcomes in kidney transplant patients. He is actively involved in clinical care, medical education, and research, and serves as Director of the Nephrology Rotation for medical residents at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

He completed his medical degree and Master of Basic Sciences at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, followed by residency training in internal medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. He then completed fellowships in nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and transplant nephrology at Columbia University Medical Center. Prior to joining Montefiore and Einstein, he held faculty and clinical positions at New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center.

Dr. Al Azzi is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology and is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology. He is an internationally recognized investigator with numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Kidney International, and the American Journal of Transplantation. His research has focused extensively on kidney transplantation outcomes, transplant immunology, and the impact of COVID-19 on transplant recipients, including contributions to major national and international collaborative studies.

In addition to his research and clinical work, Dr. Al Azzi is an invited speaker at national and international conferences and actively contributes to the advancement of transplant nephrology through mentorship, education, and leadership in professional societies.
