Jared C. Gelbs, MD

Jared Gelbs, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Gelbs cares for children and adolescents of all ages, ranging from infancy to early adulthood, with a wide variety of gastrointestinal conditions. These include inflammatory, allergic, nutritional, feeding and functional disorders. His special area of interest is in celiac disease.

He achieved his Bachelor of Arts in public health studies - natural sciences from Johns Hopkins University in 2011 and earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut in 2017. Dr. Gelbs completed his residency in pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health in 2020. He completed his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2023.

Dr. Gelbs’ clinical interest in celiac disease has extended to his research, where he has investigated celiac disease at the single-cell level with a focus on the T-Cell response in celiac disease patients. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and abstracts, and he has given several invited presentations.

Dr. Gelbs is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. In 2016, Dr. Gelbs was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
