About

Neel P. Chudgar, MD, is Associate Director of Clinical and Translational Research, Thoracic Surgery, and an Attending Physician at Montefiore. He is also an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Chudgar received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston University in 2008 and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in 2012. His postdoctoral training began with a General Surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center. From 2014 to 2016, he was a research fellow with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2021, he completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship with NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Chudgar is a thoracic surgeon with a special interest in the treatment of lung and esophageal cancer, as well as malignancies of the mediastinum and chest wall. He is involved in the investigation of incidental lung nodules to ensure potential lung cancers are not lost to follow-up. He also has an interest in the biology of early-stage lung cancer to aid in earlier detection. He is board certified and his work has been shared in many peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and oral presentations.
