About

Analena Alcabes, MD, is a colorectal surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus centers on the multidisciplinary management of rectal cancer, with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic approaches to complex colorectal disease. Dr. Alcabes has a particular interest in sphincter-preserving surgery and optimizing oncologic and functional outcomes for patients with rectal cancer. Her practice emphasizes individualized, evidence-based care and close collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive treatment across the full continuum of rectal cancer care.

Dr. Alcabes received her Bachelor of Science from Amherst College in 2013 and her Doctor of Medicine from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2018. She completed her general surgery residency at Montefiore Einstein, followed by a specialized minimally invasive surgery fellowship in advanced rectal cancer management at Lankenau Medical Center and a colorectal surgery fellowship at Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. Alcabes has contributed to peer-reviewed surgical literature in the areas of minimally invasive and robotic techniques and enhanced recovery in colorectal surgery. Her scholarly work also encompasses health equity research, with a focus on disparities in health knowledge and access to care among underserved populations. Together, these efforts reflect a commitment to advancing both surgical innovation and equitable patient outcomes.

Dr. Alcabes is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is an active member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
