Shelly Hsieh, MD

Shelly Hsieh, MD, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Hsieh’s clinical focus is in outpatient care for people living with spinal cord injury and related disorders. She believes in a holistic approach to helping people regain their quality of life—medical, physical, functional and emotional.

Dr. Hsieh completed an accelerated 7-year BS/MD program at The College of New Jersey, Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School, earning her Bachelor of Science in biology in 2013 and her Doctor of Medicine in 2016. After completing a preliminary internship in internal medicine at Morristown Medical Center in 2017, she continued her medical training at Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School/Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, where she completed both her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 2020 and fellowship in spinal cord injury medicine in 2021.

Following her clinical interests, Dr. Hsieh’s research focus includes spinal cord injury, disability awareness and quality of life. Her work has been shared through peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, oral presentations, poster presentations and peer-reviewed abstracts.

Dr. Hsieh is board certified in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a member of several professional societies including the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Association of Academic Physiatrists. In 2022, she received recognition from Burke Rehabilitation Hospital as Best Faculty Teacher of the Year and from Castle Connolly Top Doctors as a Rising Star.
