Ya Zhou, MD

Ya Zhou, MD, is a bariatric surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, General Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus centers on multidisciplinary bariatric care and quality improvement in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Zhou has performed over 1000 bariatric procedures.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and cell biology from the University of Maryland College Park in 2013, Dr. Zhou earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Maryland Baltimore in 2017. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School – Baystate in 2022 before completing her minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Montefiore Einstein in 2023.

Dr. Zhou is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of the Association of Women Surgeons, the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, among others. In 2020, Dr. Zhou won the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Conference Award from the Association of Women Surgeons.
