About

John M. Olsewski, MD, FAAOS, FACS, is Chief, Spine Surgery and Clinical Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus centers on orthopedic spine surgery.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in anatomy and physiology from Cornell University in 1980, Dr. Olsewski earned his Master of Science in mammalian physiology at the same institution in 1982. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986, where he also completed a general surgery internship in 1987. Dr. Olsewski remained at this institution to complete his Master of Arts in anatomical sciences as well as a basic science fellowship in 1988. Following this, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1992 before completing an additional spine surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 1994.

Building on his clinical focus, Dr. Olsewski’s research is focused on spinal stenosis and cervical myelopathy. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and he has presented abstracts nationally and internationally.

Dr. Olsewski is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Simmons Surgical Society and the Academic Orthopaedic Society. He is also a member of many professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the North American Spine Society. Dr. Olsewski is the past President of the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is currently on the Board of Councilors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
