About
Anurag Shrivastava, MD, is Assistant Dean, Montefiore Einstein, Chair, Graduate Medical Education Clinical Learning Environment Committee and Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Shrivastava is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from University of Rochester with high honors, Dr. Shrivastava later pursued his medical education at State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, earning his Doctor of Medicine. He went on to a transitional year internship at Weill Cornell NewYork-Presbyterian, followed by ophthalmology residency at Montefiore Einstein, where he was elected as Chief Resident in his final year. He continued his training with a fellowship in glaucoma and advanced surgical technique at Stanford Medical Center before rejoining Montefiore Einstein as faculty.
Dr. Shrivastava’s clinical research is primarily focused on structural and functional deficits in glaucoma, the interplay between cataract surgery and glaucoma management, along with advancements in drug delivery and trials involving novel molecules and therapeutic targets. He is very active in developing and researching advancements in medical educational resources such as the Eyelecture platform and the Ronald M. Burde Microsurgical Simulation Laboratory. Dr. Shrivastava is active in the Office for Clinical Trials, and has been highly involved in leading-edge clinical trials at the forefront of glaucoma management, including early phase drug and device trials along with sustained release drug delivery technologies. Dr. Shrivastava has also been instrumental in developing data consortiums at Montefiore Einstein that allow for multicenter data analyses.
Dr. Shrivastava has been recognized many times for his contributions to excellence at Montefiore Einstein, receiving the Montefiore Annual President’s Award in 2015 and being inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society in 2022, honoring outstanding physician educators. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the New York State Ophthalmological Society, the New York Glaucoma Society, and the American Glaucoma Society.
