About
Yi Guo, MD, is an attending surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Orthopedic Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Guo’s clinical focus centers on complex foot and ankle reconstruction, sports-related injuries, deformity correction and minimally invasive procedures. He has a particular interest in optimizing functional outcomes, accelerating recovery and applying evidence-based techniques to improve patient care.
After earning his Doctor of Medicine at Shandong University School of Medicine in Jinan, China, Dr. Guo completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Peking University School of Medicine in Beijing, China. He then moved to the United States to continue his medical training, completing an orthopedic oncology fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center and a foot and ankle fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. Dr. Guo went on to complete an orthopedic spine fellowship at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the California Pacific Medical Center and an orthopedic spine fellowship at Beaumont Hospital. This unique multidisciplinary orthopedic subspecialty training enables him to evaluate and treat patients with a broader and more comprehensive perspective, helping to avoid misdiagnosis and achieve better treatment outcomes.
Dr. Guo’s research focuses on foot and ankle pathology, including fracture management, total ankle replacement, Achilles tendinosis and adult-acquired flatfoot deformity, with an emphasis on improving surgical techniques, functional outcomes and evidence-based patient care. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, and he has shared his work through national and international invited presentations, poster presentations and podium presentations at academic meetings. Dr. Guo is also a reviewer for several journals and grants, including the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Annals of Joint, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, among others.
Dr. Guo is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). He was a co-author of the winning President's Prize for Best Research Paper at the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (IFFAS) in 2020.
