
Lynn Ann Forrester, MD
About
Lynn Ann Forrester, MD, is an attending physician at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Forrester treats problems of the hand, wrist and elbow in patients of all ages. Common conditions she treats include fractures, arthritis, peripheral nerve injuries, and tendon and ligament injuries. She also has a special interest in peripheral nerve pathology, brachial plexus injury, Dupuytren’s contracture, congenital hand, wrist arthritis and trauma. As a surgeon-scientist, her primary focus is to provide high quality, empathetic care to her patients, and to use her research to improve her patient’s quality of life.
After completing her Bachelor of Arts at Brown University in political science and economics, Dr. Forrester pursued her medical education, completing a certificate in postbaccalaureate premedical studies at Columbia University. She then attended New York University School of Medicine to obtain her Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Forrester completed her orthopedic surgery residency on the 6-year research resident track at Columbia University Medical Center. She then completed her training with a hand and upper extremity fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Forrester’s ongoing research interests include the study of neonatal brachial plexus injury with a focus on the mechanisms by which shoulder paralysis leads to joint deformity. She is also interested in tissue crosstalk, and specifically how pathological tendons communicate with adjacent tissue in the joint. Dr. Forrester is actively engaged in research, with more than 70 peer-reviewed papers and scientific presentations to her credit. Her research has also been supported by multiple grants and awards from nationally recognized orthopedic professional societies including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. She has also served as a reviewer for the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and the Musculoskeletal Journal of Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Forrester is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Forrester is also committed to mentoring and developing the next generation of leaders in orthopedic surgery, and is actively engaged in medical student and resident education. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
