Teresa Benacquista, MD

Teresa Benacquista, MD, is Program Director, Plastic Surgery at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus centers on breast reconstruction, including implant-based and autologous reconstruction using microsurgical free flaps. Dr. Benacquista performs oncoplastic breast reductions and mastopexies on patients with larger breasts who are candidates for breast conservation surgeries. She also performs body contouring surgeries following bariatric surgery.

After earning her Doctor of Medicine from Harvard Medical School in 1985, Dr. Benacquista completed a general surgery internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1986, followed by a general surgery residency at the same institution in 1990, where she was Chief Resident in her final year. She then completed a plastic surgery residency at Montefiore in 1992, followed by a microsurgery fellowship at New York University Medical Center in 1994.

Dr. Benacquista’s research focuses on the outcomes of body contouring surgeries following bariatric surgery, with an emphasis on long-term patient satisfaction and weight-loss maintenance. Her work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

Dr. Benacquista is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
