
Michael P. Jones, MD
About
Michael P. Jones, MD, is Professor and Interim Chair, Emergency Medicine at Montefiore Einstein and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Jones leads one of the most dynamic, high-acuity emergency departments in the country, with work spanning multiple clinical sites, our world-class medical school and one of the oldest emergency medicine residency programs in the nation. He is deeply committed to equitable, patient-centered emergency care, focusing on trauma, resuscitation and complex medical decision-making in urban safety-net settings.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences from Columbia University in 2003, Dr. Jones pursued his Doctor of Medicine at Einstein, earning his degree in 2007. He completed his residency at Montefiore Einstein and NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in 2011, taking on the role of Chief Resident in his final year. He has remained at Montefiore Einstein ever since, committed to the people, the place, and our mission.
Dr. Jones’ research focuses on trauma resuscitation, emergency department operations, medical education, physician well-being and prehospital systems of care. His scholarly work emphasizes practical innovations that improve patient outcomes, team performance and training in high-stress emergency environments. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journals, books, abstracts and presentations at international, national and regional conferences. Dr. Jones is also a reviewer for several medical journals including Academic Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine Education and Training, the Einstein Journal of Biology and Medicine and Emergency Medicine Practice. He is passionate about developing future emergency physicians and leaders, and about building systems where clinicians and learners can thrive.
Dr. Jones is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and is a member of the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. In 2017, he was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society honoring outstanding physician educators.
