About
Carlos M. Alvarado, MD is an attending physician in orthopedic surgery and Assistant Professor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Alvarado’s clinical focus is on hip and knee replacement, including robotic-assisted procedures, custom-made implants, post-traumatic reconstruction and minimally invasive anterior approach total hip replacement.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in chemistry and Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from the University of Chicago in 2003, Dr. Alvarado attended University of Michigan Medical School. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2008. He started his postgraduate training at New York University Langone Medical Center Hospital for Joint Diseases, completing a general surgery internship in 2009 and a four-year orthopedic surgery residency in 2013. He then went to Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School for a total joint replacement/adult reconstruction fellowship.
Dr. Alvarado’s research investigates patient outcomes in revision and conversion total joint replacement as well as technology in hip and knee replacement including robotic surgery and custom-made implants and cost containment in hip and knee reconstruction. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and shared at annual meetings and conferences.
Dr. Alvarado is a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons.
